Steps4ward – Social and Emotional Learning Skills Program
Why are social skills important?
Social and emotional skills are a fundamental part of how people adjust and integrate into their environment. Verbal and non-verbal social skills – such as speech and body language – are a basicpart of how people fit in, form friendships, and work effectively with others.
The development of these skills is important, not only for the well-being of individuals but also for the wider community.
People with poor social skills may have trouble picking up on social cues and following social rules. This can make it hard for them to fit in, form friendships, and work with others. They may avoid interacting and feel isolated and alone with their struggles.
